Chung Shan Medical University emphasizes the spirit of medical-humanities, appreciates human value, and respects life. Consequently, the Center for General Education offers the medical humanities related courses and integrated courses in “Gender, Culture and Medicine,” and establishes the research community by organizing the teachers with the background of medicine, nursing, law, gender, sociology and mental philosophy.
At present, The total number of credits required for general education courses is 20 credits. Students must complete all required credits before they can apply for graduation.The curriculum is divided into two main categories: " Foundation of University Education " courses and "Liberal Arts General Education" courses. The principles for taking these courses are as follows:
"Fundamental General Education" Courses: Required, totaling 6 credits. These courses include " Multiculturalism and Languages," " Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Applications," " Foundation of University Education," and "Service Learning.
"Liberal Arts General Education" Courses: Required, totaling 14 credits (16 credits for students in the Medical Informatics Department). This includes four major areas: the Arts and Literature Domain, the Social Sciences Domain, the Medical Humanities Domain, and the Science and Technology Domain. Students must take at least 2 credits in each domain.
